Dr. Peter Fletcher
Dr. Peter Fletcher’s Catholic faith and the transformative love of Jesus Christ has shaped the trajectory of his life and work. It likewise has determined his essential purpose in life: to restore that which is most authentically human and to help others to grow as saints, fully alive.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Fletcher has served the Church and society through his work in Catholic schools, universities and parishes. He has served as a board member at St. Thomas More School, a teacher at Skutt Catholic, a host at Spirit Catholic Radio, assistant principal at a large diocesan school in Baton Rouge, LA, headmaster at a classical K-12 School in Lafayette, LA, head of high school at an all-boys school in Chicago, a youth minister, pilgrimage director and more.
Not surprisingly, the cultivation of the mind through education has been a major work of Dr. Fletcher’s life. From the University of Dallas, Dr. Fletcher holds a B.A. in Philosophy and a Master’s in American Studies. He earned a teaching certificate at Creighton University and a Master of Theological Studies from Ave Maria University. In 2022 he completed his Doctorate of Education at the University of Mary.
Scholarly writings (including his doctoral dissertation) have focused on the writings of Pope St. John Paul the Great, the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, and the educational thought of St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and St. John Henry Newman. His dissertation is entitled Integrating Catholic Identity: Lighting a Path for the Renewal of Catholic Education.
Growing up among the mountains of Colorado, Dr. Fletcher has always had a love of nature, and he can periodically be found kayaking nearby rivers, hiking the hills, or crossing the Grand Canyon. He has enjoyed leading youth wilderness trips both in Colorado and the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Dr. Fletcher and his wife, Christie, take great delight in their seven children — two of whom were also adopted and have special needs — and growing number of grandchildren. Dr. Fletcher’s family has a rich culture of music, singing, and Cajun swing dancing. Indeed, family gatherings often find the whole family harmonizing over dishes to Irish ballads or songs from Les Misérables. The Fletcher family often exudes a vibrant culture of joy, welcome, and conversation, rooted in its Catholic faith.
Whether playing with his grandchildren, hiking among the hills or teaching in the classroom, Dr. Fletcher has committed his life to renewing the Church and society by restoring all that makes us truly human — one person at a time.
