Last Week at JPII - 03/10/25

The JPII Kindergarten class stops for a picture with Miss Sawicki and Miss Mellender at the fountain in the Joslyn Art Museum.

Mar 10, 2025 - This week, our Kindergarteners took a morning trip to the Joslyn Art Museum to engage in some learning outside the classroom setting! Students enjoyed looking at artwork containing different kinds of creatures in the permanent art gallery. The class ended the morning by making crayon rubbings of tiles they found, and observing the fountain.

The 5th and 6th graders also took a trip to the Joslyn Art Museum this week. Students enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the permanent collection, and were encouraged to choose a few pieces to contemplate. Many students were drawn to paintings that told a story. While viewing ancient Egyptian artifacts (some over 3000 years old), students were reminded of various items in a novel on Ancient Egypt that they finished in November. The classes are currently studying Greek mythology, and students were excited to find a Greek amphora from 570 BC.

This week, under the supervision of Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Mellender, Boys Leadership recreated the “Bola” an ancient hunting weapon made up of a number of weighted objects bound together by string. It is meant to be spun around the head like a sling, released using the built up momentum to catch the legs or wings of the prey, taking them to the ground where they can be dispatched.

Who knew Mrs. Jansen was a jump rope superstar? Here she is, passing her wisdom down to Girls Leadership!

On Shrove Tuesday, we celebrated Mardi Gras, with 8th graders serving breakfast for lunch. Now that Lent has begun, students have been gathering on Fridays to pray the Stations of the Cross together.

Hope you enjoyed this week in the life of JPII. Stay tuned for more glimpses in and out of the classroom as we continue to form saints, fully alive!
