Last Week at JPII - 11/18/24
Nov 18, 2024 - It was a busy week at St. John Paul II Academy! Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from last week, capturing the heart of life at JPII.
On Veterans Day, JPII students had a special visit from Air Force veteran Dr. Mellender and his service dog, Bullet. Dr. Mellender spoke to students about our call from God to serve our fellow man and how to work with, train, and interact with service dogs. Thank you for your service, Dr. Mellender!
Girls’ Leadership harvested (and tasted) the radishes they planted a couple months ago in our elevated planters. Boys’ Outdoor Leadership received their certifications in knife safety, and worked on sanding down their walking sticks for further decoration.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade had fun exploring the ice that formed on the picnic tables during one of the nights where temperatures dropped below freezing. Yes, we still play outside when it’s cold!
High school girls enjoyed a trip to the Jocelyn art museum where they studied the Madonna and Child with Saints Catherine and Agnes, (likely by a student of Flemish artist Jan Gossert) as well as many other incredible works of art. Not only did this trip expose the students to beautiful artwork, but made tangible the rich history of the world that they have been studying through various artifacts from ages past.
And overall, students enjoyed the beautiful fall weather! Below, Upper School girls throw autumn leaves at each other, while a 2nd grader shows off the fairy house that she built at the roots of the playground tree.
Hope you enjoyed this week in the life of JPII. Stay tuned for more glimpses in and out of the classroom as we continue to form saints, fully alive!
