Mr. Ron Reno inspects student art during a special art workshop for 5th and 6th graders.

Jan 20, 2025 - It was a busy week at St. John Paul II Academy! Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from last week, capturing the heart of life at JPII.

“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matt 19:14) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) teacher, Mrs. Angela Vogel inspires wonder and devotion in our Kindergartners by helping them encounter Christ in our CGS atrium.

Latin class… but make it fun! High Schoolers enjoying practical applications of their Latin vocabulary with some fun games including Ninja and “Rubra Lux - Viridis Lux”, aka “Red Light - Green Light”.

1st through 4th graders learned some classy life skills this week! Girls Leadership had a table etiquette class led by Miss Fletcher. In Boys Leadership, Mr. Mellender taught the boys how to tie Half (single) Windsor, Full (double) Windsor, and Reverse Windsor knots.

7th and 8th grade art was guest-taught by Miss Simons this week, where students created simple and beautiful still life images. For some it was their first time using charcoal as an art medium!

Meanwhile at Magdala (the Missionary Educator House), Fr. Scott Schilmoeller, Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of Omaha, blessed and chalked the doors of the Magdala House. Later he shared tea and visited with our beloved Missionary Educators.

Hope you enjoyed this week in the life of JPII. Stay tuned for more glimpses in and out of the classroom as we continue to form saints, fully alive!
